Creative Process & Artistic Ethos

As an artist, I value healthy, long-term, collaborative relationships. I prioritize creating art with a purpose, telling new and/or unheard stories, and making art in conversation with place and community. I lead artistic processes by centering the human experience and ensemble dynamic, working to meet the specific, individual needs of my collaborators. My career path was formed in part by my multi-faceted education and involvement in producing theatre, working as a carpenter and electrician while directing, stage managing, performing, and pursuing my degree in theatre. As a result, I continue to approach theatre as a multi-disciplinary artist focusing in directing, devising, writing, and costume design.

I aim to one day form my own theatre company, to

  1. create community-based art, with a focus on queer and trans stories

  2. prioritize cross-disciplinary training for artists, balancing a respect for expertise and excellence with the value of wide and varied skill sets

  3. develop and produce new works in conversation with the interests of the extended community

As a community-facing artist/administrator, I know firsthand the value that shared leadership, collective knowledge, and deep, mutually beneficial relationships bring to art. Theatre is not a commodity, it is a set of relationships.
