La Casa
Inspired by the work of Because You Are Here (BYAH) and supported by a grant from the Davis Projects for Peace, La Casa was a devised, immersive, and interactive theatrical experience. It was created, rehearsed, and performed in the house I lived in, in Walla Walla, which was open all summer to collective work, and to audiences for designated weekend of synchronous, exhibit-style performances.
I co-led this project with Maddy Gold and Erina Horikawa, both collaborators from Because You Are Here, with the ambition to create a new collective of collaborators, including more members of the Walla Walla community. While BYAH was built on a foundation of interviews, La Casa was rooted in a series of dialogues, within the collective and in each collaborator’s personal lives. We organized both the collective and the show to encourage conversations about immigration, framed within the concepts of home and community.
